What FlockScanner Is

FlockScanner is a public-interest transparency directory that maps automated license plate reader (ALPR) camera infrastructure across the United States. It's modeled on deflock.org's map-first approach to the same underlying OpenStreetMap dataset, extended with a searchable state and city directory plus an editorial content layer that explains the technology and policy landscape around ALPR systems.

Why It Exists

Automated license plate readers are increasingly deployed on public roads, at intersections, and along neighborhood entrances — often without public notice, a published inventory, or any opt-out mechanism. FlockScanner exists to make already-public information about where this infrastructure is located easier to find and understand.

This Site is about transparency into physical surveillance infrastructure in public space. It is not about tracking any individual: FlockScanner does not collect, store, or publish license plate numbers, travel history, or any other data about the people who pass by these cameras. It shows where cameras are, not who has driven past them.

What "Verified" Means on This Site

FlockScanner does not independently field-verify camera locations. The map and directory reflect the OpenStreetMap community's own tagging as of the most recent automated nightly sync — nothing more.

If the word "verified" appears anywhere on this Site, it means one specific thing: the location is present in the current OpenStreetMap sync — not that FlockScanner staff, contractors, or anyone else has physically confirmed a camera exists at that point.
