Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 31, 2026
1. Overview
FlockScanner is a static website — built with Astro and served from GitHub Pages — with no server-side database, no user account system, and no live write endpoint. This policy explains, honestly and specifically, what that does and doesn't mean for your privacy when you visit.
2. What We Do Not Collect
- No accounts, logins, or passwords — the Site does not have them.
- No camera-submission or moderation forms that could capture your identity.
- No personally identifiable information tied to individual visitors is stored in any database, because FlockScanner does not operate one.
- No data about you as a person is displayed on the Site. The Site publishes camera hardware location data, not information about individuals.
3. What May Be Collected Automatically
Like most websites, requests to the Site pass through standard hosting/CDN infrastructure, which may log basic technical information — such as IP address, browser type, and requested page — for security and reliability purposes, consistent with normal web server behavior.
We use a third-party analytics tool to understand how the Site is used. This currently includes session replay: the tool records interactions with a page — pointer movement, clicks, and scrolling — and can play them back as a reconstruction of a visit, and aggregates them into heatmaps. This is more than page counts, and we would rather say so plainly than describe it as ordinary analytics.
We have not committed this policy to a specific named vendor, since the choice of tool may change. Whatever service is in use is configured to minimize collection of personally identifiable information — the current provider masks text content by default — and we do not sell personal data to third parties. The Site has no accounts, so nothing recorded is tied to an identity we hold.
4. Cookies
FlockScanner itself does not set cookies for tracking purposes. If an analytics or other third-party script is enabled on the Site, that script may set its own cookies or local storage entries, subject to that provider's own privacy practices.
5. Third-Party Services
Our interactive map may load background map tiles and related resources from a third-party basemap provider. Loading those resources, like any web request, may expose your IP address to that provider in the ordinary course of serving the tiles — this is normal web behavior, not something FlockScanner configures beyond choosing the provider. We do not control that provider's data practices; consult their own privacy policy for detail.
Camera location data itself is sourced from OpenStreetMap; see our Methodology page for how that pipeline works. Using OpenStreetMap-derived data on this Site does not involve sharing any information about you with OpenStreetMap.
6. Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
7. Data Requests
Because FlockScanner does not maintain user accounts or a personal-data database, there is generally no individual profile for us to access, export, or delete on your behalf. FlockScanner is operated anonymously and does not publish a contact address, contact form, or other channel through which to submit a data request.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
