Every camera listed here comes from OpenStreetMap's man_made=surveillance / surveillance:type=ALPR tagging scheme, refreshed on a nightly cadence — see the methodology page for how the sync pipeline works. This directory exists because deflock.org's own map is browse-only; publishing a static, crawlable page per state (and eventually per city) makes the same public dataset reachable through a normal web search, not just through an interactive map. An ALPR ("automated license plate reader") camera photographs every plate that passes it and matches the read against hot lists in near real time, logging the rest for later search. They're distinct from red-light and speed cameras, which only trigger on a traffic violation — see ALPR vs. traffic cameras for the difference. The largest vendors deploying this hardware in the US are Flock Safety, Rekor, Motorola/Vigilant, and Genetec; OpenStreetMap contributors record which vendor made a given camera when they can identify it, and a large share are tagged as unknown simply because no one has added that detail yet. Coverage below reflects OpenStreetMap's current tagging, not the actual number of cameras deployed nationwide — states with more active OSM contributors will naturally show more cameras, regardless of how much ALPR infrastructure each state actually has. This directory will grow as more volunteers map their area and as FlockScanner's launch scope expands beyond the United States; see methodology for the current data-provenance details.
