Our Commitment

FlockScanner is committed to making its map, camera directory, and content accessible to the widest possible audience, including people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice control, or keyboard-only navigation.

Conformance Target

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), the widely adopted standard for web accessibility, across every page type on the Site — the landing page, the interactive map, camera directory pages, articles, news, and legal pages.

Measures We Take

• Semantic HTML landmarks and heading structure on every page.
• A dark, high-contrast color palette checked against WCAG AA contrast ratios for text and interactive elements.
• Keyboard-operable navigation, including the mobile menu toggle and map controls.
• Descriptive link text and `alt` text on informational images.
• No motion or smooth-scroll effects on the map view, and respect for a user's reduced-motion preference on content pages that do use animation.

Known Limitations

The interactive map (/map) relies on MapLibre GL, a canvas-rendered mapping library. Canvas-rendered maps have inherent accessibility limits for screen-reader users — individual camera markers on the canvas itself are not independently reachable by a screen reader. As a mitigation, the same underlying camera data is also published as plain, screen-reader-accessible HTML on the camera directory pages, organized by state and city, so the information on the map is never available only in an inaccessible format.

We treat accessibility as an ongoing process rather than a one-time checklist, and this statement will be updated as the Site's map and directory pages evolve.

Evaluation Approach

Pages are checked with automated accessibility tooling (axe-core-based checks and Lighthouse accessibility audits) as part of the Site's build and review process, alongside manual keyboard-navigation spot checks.

FlockScanner is operated anonymously and does not publish a contact address, contact form, or other communication channel — including for accessibility feedback. If you use assistive technology and encounter a barrier, the camera-directory pages linked above are the standards-compliant HTML fallback for every page type that could otherwise be harder to navigate.
