If you see a camera mounted at an intersection, it’s easy to assume it’s there to catch red-light runners. Often it isn’t. Can one camera do both?

That’s part of why ALPR draws more sustained attention from privacy researchers and civil liberties groups than red-light cameras do — the volume and permanence of the data is different in kind, not just degree.
